ABOUT THE COURSE

This level 3 apprenticeship will help you develop the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in engineering across all four disciplines; mechanical, electrical, electronic, and/or maintenance.

Engineering Technicians work in a wide range of fields including Aerospace, Aviation, Maritime Defence, and the wider advanced manufacturing industry. They design, build, service and repair a wide range of engineering products and services.

Working as an Engineering Technician you will be predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex work. You must be able to apply safe systems of working, make technical and design contributions, apply proven techniques and procedures to solve problems, and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.  This Level 3 apprenticeship is designed to allow you to enhance, improve and develop your skills to become highly competent in all of these key areas.

The apprenticeship will equip you with higher-level skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in one of the following engineering disciplines: mechanical, electrical, electronic, or maintenance.

WHAT YOU’LL STUDY

On the Level 3 apprenticeship you will learn:

  • How to use engineering knowledge and understanding to apply technical and practical skills
  • How to design, develop, manufacture, build, commission, operate or maintain products, equipment, processes, systems or services
  • How to communicate effectively
  • Industry regulations
  • How to adapt to different situations, environments, and technologies.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • To be aged 16 or older
  • To be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week with 20% of your normal working hours set aside for you to complete your training and study
  • GCSEs at grade 4 or above in English and Maths and a Science or a relevant Level 2 qualification and Functional Skills at Level 2 in English and Maths

All applicants must have an interview and assessment in English and Maths to confirm that the apprenticeship is suitable for them.

Employers may also set additional entry requirements, as a prerequisite to working with them.

WHAT THE COURSE LEADS TO.

This apprenticeship standard will meet the professional standards of the Engineering Councilfor registration as Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) by an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution.
